I never post

Sigh, I realize I haven’t posted in many years. I blame facebook. And maybe twitter. Or perhaps I never thoughts that require more than a few sentences to articulate. Anyway, I am alive, I assure you. I just seem to have less things to post about. So, since my last post was a random Daily show clip – so shall this one be. Beware, my friends, “Potato Day” means the end of freedom:

Fox Noise goes crazy on Day 2

It didn’t take lot for Fox to lose it.

Here we go again….

Once again the meaning of the word “low” escapes Yahoo…

How can you be lower than the lowest?

What’s wrong with this graphic from Yahoo that I grabbed a few minutes ago for DC?

Yahoo and Temperature

As I understand it, the low means the lowest temperature for a day….

Apple’s iPod Touch Guided tour

Apple – iPod touch – Guided Tour – Medium Where does Apple find these black-clad, hand-gesture-using demo guys?

Houston turns 171

Part invention, part promotion: Houston turns 171 | Chron.com – Houston Chronicle. This is a weird article. 171 doesn’t seem like that significant a number… and I don’t remember anything happening in Houston when it turned 165 or 170. I somehow doubt the Astros retiring Bagwell’s number has anything to do with the anniversary of the city’s founding.

When the city turns 200 though, that’ll be kind of cool.

Another step away from Vatican II

Pope: Other Christians not true churches – Yahoo! News. This unfortunate document on other churches represents a real step away from Vatican II, which stated that the church “subsists in” the Catholic church, but is not equal to the Catholic church. That language was deliberate, but conservatives never liked it (nor Vatican II itself), and now another document giving the conservative spin on Vatican II. This is the sort of thing that made Benedict’s election as pope such a troublesome event.

Bad Airports

Salon has a piece on the best and worst airports in the world. (Since I never fly internationally I’d be more interested in a purely domestic list, but it’s still interesting.) Houston Intercontinental’s Terminal B gets a nod as one of the worst (on page 2), and it is quite lame. At least you can escape it. Frankly I think SFO’s Terminal… whatever terminal I was in last time … was worse. Meager food selections and you can’t get out to another terminal without having to go through security again. Quite lame.

Oh, and DFW is on there as well. It is quite lame.

East Regional – In Washington?

Am I the only one who thinks it’s odd that the East regional (which Texas is in), is out in… Washington state? I’m fairly sure that’s not in the East. For a second I thought maybe they meant Washington, D.C., but no – Spokane, Washington. Of course, Texas really isn’t from the East either so… maybe it’s just a label.

Culberson and his anti-rail goons should sue! It says East! It has to be in the East!

I’m just trying to save energy…

so I bought a four-pack of compact fluorescent bulbs, 60 watt replacements. They use 1/4 the energy. I’ll reduce my carbon emissions. I’ll save money in the long run. It seemed like the right thing to do.

But, my dumb fan/light ceiling fixtures are too small. The light bulb cover thing won’t fit back onto the fixture because the compact fluorescents are like 1/2 inch longer than their standard counterparts and apparently that’s enough to make a difference.

So, I said phooey on the covers and the light bulbs are just bare. What do I care – the environment is more important than style. But, I may investigate finding replacement covers that will fit.

Also, I suppose the light that needs replacement is the 150 watt incandescent bulb on the torch lamp in my living room. That is still there.
