iPod Patent Nonsense

It just won’t stop. A flurry of mostly absurd and ludicrous mainstream press stories about how Microsoft somehow patented some key iPod technology and now Microsoft will make Apple pay them millions. It’s complete nonsense but it’s being repeated over and over.

Anyway, Forbes has a somewhat level-headed analysis. Anyone who actually reads the patents will realize they barely have anything to do with the iPod, and futhermore Microsoft didn’t get the patent either – it’s just an application AND no one can patent something that another company is already shipping.

When all is said and done, Apple won’t be paying Microsoft anything for any technology related to the iPod. It’s all just media-generated nonsense. Also, here’s a buisnessweek.com story that also gets it straight.

Even Cubs fans think the Astros win the Wild Card

Well, that’s not true but at least it’s true for residents of Illinois. ESPN.com has a poll on their MLB page (at least for today) about the ultimate NL wild card team. The Astros currently have a 2 game lead on the Nationals and I think a fourish game lead on everyone else. So, the poll results between four teams (Houston, Philly, Chicago, and Florida) have Houston at a whopping 63%.

What’s cool is that the site breaks it down by state. However, even in states that have one of the other teams in them (Flordiay, Illinois, Pennsylvania, umm, Virgina I guess is the best proxy for DC because DC is not on there) – the Astros have the edge. I don’t know, I think that’s kindof cool. I guess most people just vote for whoever is in the lead? And perhaps knowing we have Clemens and Pettite and Oswalt keeps non-Texans from straying.
